Painless Abdominal Acupuncture to Treat the Hundred Diseases

A pentagram representing the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching superimposed on the abdomen (from Dr. Bo's book)

This is the name of Dr. Zhi-yun Bo's book.

Dr. Bo is from China. His is essentially a microsystem in which all parts of the body are represented by different areas of the abdomen. It is painless because the depth of acupuncture is usually shallow. I have been studying Dr. Bo's book in Chinese and practicing some of his methods. Dr. Bo organized the acupuncture points for each protocol into two groups:

  • The Chief group consists of the Emperor and Ministers. These are all important Conception Channel points along the center line that address the root cause of the problem by regulating the internal organs.
  • The Supplementary group consists of the Assistants and Envoys. These points lie on the sides of the abdomen. They restore the normal flow of qi and blood and balance the interior and exterior to complete the treatment.

Dr. Bo's Abdominal Acupuncture is an excellent example of the continued evolution of the system of acupuncture and moxibustion.
