The Five Failures of Doctors
Oriental medicine is Holistic, Spirit Medicine. Chapter 77 of the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine warns about the five failures of doctors:
1. Not considering changes in the patient’s social and material status when arriving at a diagnosis
2. Neglecting the patient’s emotional experiences in arriving at a treatment strategy
3. Ignoring the patient’s lifestyle, occupation, social and family circumstances, emotional stress and immediate environment in understanding the disease
4. Failing to counsel the patient to change the way of perception and feeling to aid in the healing process
5. Being inept and incompetent and therefore unable to stem the patient’s disease from deteriorating. Then when the condition becomes grave, the physician gives a prognosis of death or incurable. This behavior is completely intolerable.
