Treating a case of undescended testicle in an 6 months old baby
One of the highlights of my work last year was treating a case of undescended testicle in a 6 months old baby. I will just call him Baby here. I had treated Baby's parents before and interestingly I had treated Baby even before he was born - when he was a breech baby in his mother's womb. So one day Baby's parents called to tell me about his condition. His right testicle was undescended and surgery had been recommended if the condition was unchanged by a certain date. They asked if I had treated the condition before. I told them no but I would be most happy to try. They were open to this adventure and an appointment was set up.
Right away I went to my books and searched the internet hoping to find some relevant clinical information. When I found none I was not so disappointed as excited. Here was an opportunity for me to think a problem through and create a treatment. In fact, this is the way I work with any individual patient. Even when the problem is a common one the way it manifests in a person is often unique and all the knowledge gathered from the past, helpful though it may be, is just a starting point.
That a testicle fails to descend indicates an interruption in the natural developmental process so the Eight Extraordinary Channels could be used for treatment. Of the eight channels the Ren and the Du are the most relevant because they both originate from the groin and together they govern sexual development. Then the Liver and Gall Bladder channels also go to the groin and can be used to move the qi there. Instead of needles I used microcurrent stimulation and qigong applied by touching the chosen points. I will not list the points I used here because I am not interested in offering a protocol. In fact, I was more interested in activating the channels and moving the qi. I gave Baby four treatments in all within a period of two and a half weeks. A week after the last treatment Baby's parents told me that an exam found that Baby's testicle had descended. He would not need surgery.
