Allergic Attack
35-year old female suffering from an acute allergic reaction made an emergency visit to my office. The chief symptom was acute swelling of the eyes, the left side being more severe. This marked the onset of a pattern of allergic reaction she was familiar with. Her eyes would get swollen first, then she would experience brain fog, to be followed by excruciating migraines that would last through the night.
Acupuncture intervention was performed in two stages. The allergy point on the ear and two other points, one for clearing liver heat, another for clearing systemic heat, were needled. Ten minutes later, a few other points for clearing inflammation and calming spirit were added. The swelling subsided. When she left the office an hour later her right eye was normal and there was only slight puffiness in her left. The following day she reported that she had a good evening with no residual effects.
